Principal's Letter

Dear TCJHS Families, Welcome to Summer School!

Summer school is an important time for students to continue learning, practice skills, and get ready for the next school year. We want every student to have a successful summer experience.

Please help your child attend summer school every day and arrive on time. Every day of learning matters. Missing school can make it harder for students to keep up with lessons and activities.

Students may arrive at 7:15 AM, and proper supervision will be available at that time. Summer school will end each day at 1:30 PM.

If you are picking up your child, please arrive on time at dismissal. Picking students up on time helps keep students safe and supports a smooth end to the school day.

If your child is absent because of illness or a doctor’s appointment, please send a doctor’s statement when your child returns to school so attendance records can stay up to date.

Thank you for supporting your child’s education and helping make summer school a success. We look forward to a great summer together!

"I have been in education for 26 years, with 19 of these years dedicated to the Tuba City Unified School District. Over the course of my career, I’ve had the privilege of serving in a variety of roles, including school counselor, classroom teacher, dean of students, and now principal."

Meet The Principal

 

Hello! My name is Constance Benally, and I am proud to serve as the Principal of Tuba City Jr. High School.
I am passionate about working with teachers, parents, and students, and I strongly believe that every individual has the potential to become a positive, contributing citizen.  My goal is to help nurture that potential by fostering a supportive and empowering school environment.
I truly love and respect my teachers for their hard work and unwavering dedication to our students. Tuba City Jr. High School holds a special place in my heart, and I find great joy in watching our students grow academically, emotionally, and socially as they become confident and self-sufficient young adults.
I look forward to continuing to serve our school community and working together to ensure success for all our students.

Building Blocks of Crisis Response

HOLD

“In Your Classroom or Area”

Students are trained to:

  • Clear the hallways and remain in their area or room until the “All Clear” is announced. 
  • Do business as usual.

Adults and staff are trained to:

  • Close and lock the door.
  • Account for students and adults.
  • Do business as usual.

SECURE

“Get Inside, Lock Outside Doors”

Security is called when there is something dangerous outside of the building. Example: wild animal, nearby police investigation, etc.

Students are trained to:

  • Return to the inside of the building. 
  • Business as usual.

Adults and staff are trained to:

  • Bring everyone indoors. 
  • Lock the outside doors.
  • Increase situational awareness.
  • Account for students and adults.
  • Business as usual.

LOCKDOWN

“Locks, Lights, Out of Sight”

A lockdown is only initiated when there is an active threat inside or very close to the building. 

Students are trained to:

  • Move away from sight.
  • Maintain silence.
  • Do not open the door.

Adults and staff are trained to:

  • Recover students from the hallway if possible.
  • Lock the classroom door. 
  • Turn out the lights. 
  • Move away from sight.
  • Maintain silence. 
  • Do not open the door. 
  • Prepare to evade or defend. 

EVACUATE

“To a Location”

Students are trained to:

  • Leave stuff behind if required to.
  • If possible, bring their phone.
  • Follow instructions.

Adults and staff are trained to:

  • Bring roll sheet and Go Bag (unless instructed not to bring anything with them, dependent on the reason for evacuation).
  • Lead students to the Evacuation location.
  • Account for students and adults. 
  • Report injuries or problems using Red Card/Green Card method.

SHELTER

“State Hazard & Safety Strategy”

Hazards might include:

  • Tornado
  • Hazmat
  • Earthquake
  • Tsunami

Safety strategies might include:

  • Evacuate to the shelter area.
  • Seal the room.
  • Drop, cover, and hold.
  • Get to high ground.

Students are trained in:

  • Appropriate Hazards and Safety Strategies

Adults and staff are trained to:

  • Appropriate Hazards and Safety Strategies.
  • Accounting for students and adults.
  • Report injuries or problems using the Red Card/Green Card method.
