Dear TCJHS Family, 

 

We are entering Week 5 of the 2026–2027 school year, and I want to thank you for your continued support of Tuba City Junior High School. Our goal is to work together with families to ensure that every student is successful academically, socially, and personally.

 

Parent-Teacher Conferences – September 17, 2026
Our Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, during the following times:
1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
5:00 PM – 7:00 PM

This is an important opportunity for parents to meet with teachers, discuss your child’s academic progress, ask questions, and identify ways we can work together to support your child.
If you have academic concerns, please contact your child’s Advisory Teacher to schedule a meeting.

 

Student Planners
Student planners have been distributed, and every student has received a planner. Please take time to review your child’s planner with them and encourage them to use it daily to record assignments, important dates, and responsibilities.

 

Student Handbook
A copy of the Student Handbook has also been provided for your child. Please review the handbook with your child and discuss the expectations for students, including attendance, behavior, responsibility, and academic success.

 

Attendance Matters
Please make every effort to ensure that your child attends school every day and arrives on time. Regular attendance is essential for academic success and helps students stay connected to their learning.  We also ask families to limit student check-outs whenever possible. Frequent check-outs can result in students missing valuable instructional time and falling behind in their coursework.

 

Thank you for partnering with us and supporting your child’s education. When families and the school work together, we create a stronger foundation for student success.

Meet The Principal

 

Hello! My name is Constance Benally, and I am proud to serve as the Principal of Tuba City Jr. High School.
I am passionate about working with teachers, parents, and students, and I strongly believe that every individual has the potential to become a positive, contributing citizen.  My goal is to help nurture that potential by fostering a supportive and empowering school environment.
I truly love and respect my teachers for their hard work and unwavering dedication to our students. Tuba City Jr. High School holds a special place in my heart, and I find great joy in watching our students grow academically, emotionally, and socially as they become confident and self-sufficient young adults.
I look forward to continuing to serve our school community and working together to ensure success for all our students.

Building Blocks of Crisis Response

HOLD

“In Your Classroom or Area”

Students are trained to:

  • Clear the hallways and remain in their area or room until the “All Clear” is announced. 
  • Do business as usual.

Adults and staff are trained to:

  • Close and lock the door.
  • Account for students and adults.
  • Do business as usual.

SECURE

“Get Inside, Lock Outside Doors”

Security is called when there is something dangerous outside of the building. Example: wild animal, nearby police investigation, etc.

Students are trained to:

  • Return to the inside of the building. 
  • Business as usual.

Adults and staff are trained to:

  • Bring everyone indoors. 
  • Lock the outside doors.
  • Increase situational awareness.
  • Account for students and adults.
  • Business as usual.

LOCKDOWN

“Locks, Lights, Out of Sight”

A lockdown is only initiated when there is an active threat inside or very close to the building. 

Students are trained to:

  • Move away from sight.
  • Maintain silence.
  • Do not open the door.

Adults and staff are trained to:

  • Recover students from the hallway if possible.
  • Lock the classroom door. 
  • Turn out the lights. 
  • Move away from sight.
  • Maintain silence. 
  • Do not open the door. 
  • Prepare to evade or defend. 

EVACUATE

“To a Location”

Students are trained to:

  • Leave stuff behind if required to.
  • If possible, bring their phone.
  • Follow instructions.

Adults and staff are trained to:

  • Bring roll sheet and Go Bag (unless instructed not to bring anything with them, dependent on the reason for evacuation).
  • Lead students to the Evacuation location.
  • Account for students and adults. 
  • Report injuries or problems using Red Card/Green Card method.

SHELTER

“State Hazard & Safety Strategy”

Hazards might include:

  • Tornado
  • Hazmat
  • Earthquake
  • Tsunami

Safety strategies might include:

  • Evacuate to the shelter area.
  • Seal the room.
  • Drop, cover, and hold.
  • Get to high ground.

Students are trained in:

  • Appropriate Hazards and Safety Strategies

Adults and staff are trained to:

  • Appropriate Hazards and Safety Strategies.
  • Accounting for students and adults.
  • Report injuries or problems using the Red Card/Green Card method.
